The book starts with an introduction on the development of the military helmet as head protection from antiquity up to and including the introduction of the steel helmet during World War I. The central part deals with the development and introduction of the Dutch steel helmet during the period 1916 until the end of May 1940. In the last part the production of the helmets, the manufacturers, and the Dutch helmets manufactured and worn after May 1940 till the end of 1946 are dwelled on at great length.
