The 900th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings in 1966

A fascinating piece of archival footage from the re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings, which took place on its 900th anniversary in 1966. Hundreds of young men and women took part in playing the Norman and English armies, while large crowds looked on. There are also some views of the historic site as well as the village of Battle.

In our special issue of Medieval Warfare on 1066: The Battle of Hastings, we have Luke Foddy writing about the commemorations of the event in 2016, during its 950th anniversary. You can read his article in our special issue - click here to buy it.
