The IMC celebrates 25 years

Once again, I've travelled to the English city of Leeds, to take part in the International Medieval Congress, one of the key academic conferences for those who study the Middle Ages. This year is especially poignant, as the IMC is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
When it first started, the congress was a modest affair, but over the years it has grown and moved to the main campus of the University of Leeds. In 2018, the congress will host nearly 3000 people from 66 countries, with over 2200 papers being given.
My first congress was back in 2001, where I gave a paper on the City of London's role in medieval warfare during the 14th century. This year, Daniele Cybulskie and I will be running a workshop on how medievalists can make money outside of academia. It is also a chance to get together with friends and colleagues, and also take a congress excursion to one of many medieval sites in this part of northern England.
