De Ruyter: Dutch Admiral launches

De Ruyter: Dutch Admiral was officially introduced to the press and public as part of the Admiral's Lecture Series, a bi-annual presentation given by the Royal Dutch Navy. The book's introduction was combined with a lecture by noted Oxford professor, Nicolas Rodger. He spoke on the subject of how history was often used to understand current events and predict future ones, and the various dangers in this approach. The book itself was discussed by Baron Schimmelpenninck van der Oije, chairman of the Dutch council of nobility. He examined the noble line and titles of the De Ruyter family. The presentation was held at the restored Amsterdam Maritime Museum. The official program was followed by a reception and unofficial tour of the museum for interested guests. For a peek at the launch, take a look at the official film, shown below (in Dutch).
