GWS 2017 10/31 questions – Waterloo wargamers

Big battle Napoleonics

If you're interested in Napoleonics, you'll probably have noticed Professor Tony Pollard's project 'Mother of all battles' a.k.a. 'The Great Game Replayed' - refighting Waterloo in 2019 with the biggest possible number of 28mm minis (article, Guy's blog). Today, we're going to take a look at the respondents who might like such games; wargamers with a preference for 'Big Battles' and scored 4 or 5 out of 5 on 'Napoleonics' as a settings. 2,189 Respondents qualified. Surprises, probably, not forthcoming. 😉

If you play big battle Napoleonics, you may very well be a bit older than the average respondent. You're also more likely to come from the UK, or Germany. 71% of you have wargamed for more than twenty years (it takes a long time to build a big Napoleonic army!) And out of a very enthusiastic population, you're even engaged with your hobby. More than 80% responded "Absolutely, I love this hobby and I'm determined to keep going." Finally, those big armies aren't cheap and you spend to get them. 32% Of big battle Napoleonics players spend more than 1000 euros per year (versus just under 25% on average).
