Warrior Clerics of Medieval England, 1000-1250

Craig Nakashian speaking at Texas A&M University-Texarkana on January 26, 2017.

Introduction: When I conceived of this project what I essentially wanted to do was look at, because I am a cultural historian and I am very interested in what people think should be the case in society, and then what is actually the case in society. So the first half of the book or the first section I call the prescriptive voices of the debate - basically, who was telling clerics what they should be like, what sort of cultural vectors do we have where clerics could point to and say that's how I should behave.

Craig Nakashian's book Warrior Churchmen of Medieval England, 1000-1250: Theory and Reality, was published last year by Boydell and Brewer. He also is the author of "A Warrior for King and Christ: Peter des Roches at the Battle of Lincoln", which will appear in the next issue of Medieval Warfare.
