Going to Crusade Part 1

It’s almost the start of the show season here in the UK. The traditional opener for the year is the Crusade show in Penarth, usually held on the last saturday of January. Held at the Cogan Leisure centre in Penarth, the show is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

I’ve long been a veteran of Penarth, I must have been going for at least 10 years, at least as long as its been held at the leisure centre. I recall going there several times with my old friend Paul Houghton (who died in 2007). We’d been going there a few years, so I’m estimating it must have been 2001 or 2002 - I really must like the show! A number of my friends go, which is very cool, even if they mess up the odd camera shot…

So why go to Crusade? It’s a good show with a very good selection of traders. The bring and buy is usually good and the games (plus the gamers) are friendly. Then there is the guest speakers, Adrian Goldsworthy (yes that Adrian Goldsworthy!) and Rob Jones. The lectures they give are always interesting and generally relate to how we can take a good chunk of history and apply it to our gaming. Good stuff!

It’s held tomorrow (January 31st) at the Cogan Leisure Centre, Penarth, Cardiff, CF64 2NS. The weather looks good (for the time of year, I’ve driven in snow before now), so why not come along? I’ll see you there, reporting live from the show.

In my next blog, I’ll tell you what the show was like (but you’re really better off seeing it for yourself if you can!).
