A year in review... and looking ahead
We have had a busy and productive year in 2025! Medieval World: Culture & Conflict continues to thrive, and we have had the opportunity to publish several exciting new issues of the magazine. We have worked with amazing authors and artists, and extend a warm thanks to all of them for their contributions, time, and expertise!
We started the year off promoting and celebrating the issue designed to commemorate the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral. MWCC.15 looked at how Notre-Dame became a landmark in the history of architecture and the topography of Paris.
The other issues published in 2025 include:
- MWCC.16 - A Complete Education: Study and Learning in the Medieval World
- MWCC.17 - The Medieval Horse: In Warfare, Literature, and Daily Life
- MWCC.18 - The Rise of the Medici: Power, Profit, and Patronage
- MWCC.19 - The End of All Things: Medieval Visions of the Apocalypse
- MWCC.20 - The Ins and Outs of Court Life: Fun, Feasting, and the Quest for Favour
I really enjoyed working on all these issues of the magazine, but particularly liked the topics covered in MWCC.17 on horses and MWCC.18 on the Medici. If you have not yet had a chance to read them, I highly recommend!
In addition to the theme content, these 2025 issues featured special columns on medieval chivalry, daily life, and medieval 'bestsellers'. In the latter, we covered topics such as the Maqamat, the Canterbury Tales, and the Golden Legend, among others. Some of these columns will continue in 2026 with new content, but you can also expect to see features on medieval cities and a special column on the wider implications of key medieval battles. We will continue to feature the book reviews section and bring you the latest news in medieval studies, as well as new discoveries, publications, and projects in the field.
We have several exciting themes in the works for this coming year. MWCC.21 will look at history writing in the Middle Ages; MWCC.22 will focus on St. Francis; MWCC.23 will explore the Bayeux Tapestry and its contexts; and MWCC.24 will tackle some medieval controversies. Stay informed about our upcoming themes on our Editorial Plan page.
If you would like to propose an article for a theme or a special column, please contact me via this page. I accept new proposals and submissions on a rolling basis.
Finally, remember that all of our magazines are now available online. Through Medieval World Online, you can access the most recent issue, the 2025 issues, and the full archive of the magazine, if interested! This is a convenient way to take the magazines with you, wherever you may go.
Happy Reading, and Happy New Year!
